Liquid Latex Lounge

2005 Camp Plans

Black Rock City

Camp Logistics and Location

This will be the 8th year for the Liquid Latex Lounge. The camp is arranged, organized, and largely funded by Jerry "Six" Pena with the help of a handful of people.

The Liquid Latex Lounge has grown and become a destination camp for many Burners over the years. We are interactive and determined to embrace and perpetuate the true spirit of BRC, despite the ever increasing population and ostensible decline in general participation.

From (late) morning to sundown everyday loads of people bring life to the Lounge by converging to paint and/or be painted in Liquid Latex while exploring the unique properties of the rubber stuff. Many others are lured in by the appeal of sinking into big inflated air sofas under the shade, and still others by any of the fun or practical amenities we place out for general use, including condoms, sunscreen, maps, pen & paper, headache medicine, mirrors, water spray bottles (labeled as "Bong Water", Rat Urine", "Puppy Vomit" and other appealing spritzer flavors). And then... there's the game of Body Twister, where your body is the game board.

"Bring a Friend, Make a Friend, Leave a Friend".

Clean Up:
We are concious of, and active in the minimization of trash, fly-away matter, and playa marring. We always lay down hundreds of square feet of carpeting and cloth tarps, both to protect the playa from latex drips and for the comfort of sitting and lying around. At tear down, this makes it simple to roll up any small particles with the carpet and pack it away. Of course we do a thorough walk-over at the very end to get any other bits that might have been missed. We place several trash & recycle bins out, each clearly marked with large "Burnable Trash", "Non-Burnable Trash" and "Recycle" signs. We sometimes depart a day later than most, so we've been known to remove unfortunate leave-behinds from neighboring camps.

Desired Location:
We're a daytime activity camp, and at night we're a quiet-mellowsville. So it would be great if we weren't too close to the big sound sytems & clubs

In the past, we have had the best experience being located...
-next to the toilets (where many other camps avoid being placed),
-facing Norh, inward towards the man,
-In the area from about 8:00-6:30 or 4:00 - 5:30 (generally slightly quiter areas)
-a few rows out from center, so we aren't too overpopulated (we enjoy relaxing, too).

Camp Layout:
Our visual appeal remains in our members and visitors, and not as much in our architecture. This year, in addition to a large parachute canopy and adjoining canopies, we'll have a Furry Dome Lounge to crawl into for vegging and giggling, and a Nap Dome for camp members to snooze off their hangovers. We'll have our LLL banners flying by day, black lights and/or twinkly lights by night, and our ever popular inflatable sofas 24/7.

Each year our camp size has grown and layout has changed. However, this illustration is a good approximation of our general layout plans: LAYOUT 2005.

In the past, we've generally only run a small generator for a few hours at night before heading out. We're careful to place it between cars, sometimes with a wooden sound wall, in an area with the least disturbance to anyone.
